Celebrating Safer Internet Day 2025

Reaffirming our Commitment to Player Safety

As we reflect on Safer Internet Day, an annual global initiative that emphasizes the importance of online safety and encourages responsible use of technology, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a safer gaming environment for our PlayStation community. Supporting Safer Internet Day aligns with our commitment to fostering player safety and wellness across the PlayStation ecosystem. As part of our commitment, we continue to expand on our three pillars of Online Safety, ‘Enforce,’ ‘Control,’ and ‘Shield,’ and continue to innovate and iterate from player feedback to enhance our products and services.

Updates Made in the Past Year

In the past year, we built on our efforts with enhanced features and expanded partnerships so our players can focus on what matters most: secure and fun play experiences.

  • A new My Account Support Portal provides users with a centralized portal to view their moderation history and account status at any time, offering greater transparency and empowering players to stay informed about their account activity.
  • We’ve also introduced Passkey as a more secure way to log in to PlayStation Network. This bolsters account security to protect players’ accounts against unauthorized access.
  • Furthermore, by integrating more sophisticated tools to detect and remove harmful content alongside expert human moderation, we’re scaling our efforts to maintain a positive environment for all players.

Looking ahead, we’re already exploring additional safety features to support our community and will have more to share in the near future.

Tips for Staying Safe Online

As part of our commitment to education, we’ve partnered with leading organizations to share practical tips for staying safe online. Our collaboration with Shout has led to the creation of valuable resources. While I urge you to take time to read through all the resources, I would like to call out this specific advice in their ‘Five Tips for Parents and Carers’: “Set clear and reasonable boundaries (and expectations).” By involving your child in setting gaming time limits and creating a family screen time schedule, you promote responsibility, trust, and better mental well-being for everyone. This advice is particularly impactful as it helps foster a balanced approach to gaming while prioritizing mental health.

We’re proud to work with mental health organizations such as Shout as well as Crisis Text Line. In the past year, we’ve also introduced new partners like Ibasho Chat in Japan and expanded our partnership with FindaHelpline. Through these partnerships, we hope that our players have access to the support they need, whenever they need it.

Additionally, we actively participate in educational initiatives with our industry partners. In the UK, we’re thrilled to support the activities organized by the UK Safer Internet Centre for Safer Internet Day for the first time and highlight how players can protect themselves and others online. Together, these efforts help us equip the community with the knowledge and tools to navigate online spaces safely.
